Watch the video and discover 4 ways to open a 3D model in Augment.
- FROM A GALLERY IN THE AUGMENT APP
Objective: Visualize 3D public models in augmented reality from our galleries within the free Augment app.
It’s the simplest way to access a model. When you become a user of Augment, you can access your own private models easily on the app. Open Augment on iOs or Android, go into one of the galleries, for instance the best-of, click on one model and your model will appear right away.
- BY SCANNING AN AUGMENTED IMAGE
Objective: Associate an image with a 3D model to see the augmented model by scanning the image.
From the Augment Manager, you can upload an image, and associate it with one of your 3D models. This action creates an Augmented Image, also called a “custom tracker”. When the association is done, go into the Augment app and scan the image. This will be instantly recognized and the 3D model will be displayed on top of the image.
Initially, when you open a model, it will be shown in “tracker-less” mode. You can then use the Augment standard tracker or create a custom tracker for a better stability and precision.

- BY SCANNING A QR CODE
Objective: Scan QR codes which appear when you add a model in the Augment Manager, when someone shares an Augment link with you, or when you come across one on social network platforms.
With the Augment app, you can scan the QR code to view a 3D model in augmented reality.
The QR code itself is not a tracker, it’s a link to tell Augment which model open.
- FROM A WEBSITE OR A LOCAL FILE
Objective: Open a 3D model stored on Dropbox, downloaded from a website on your tablet or sent by someone by email, with the option “Open with Augment”.
As soon as you do one of these actions, Augment will open and your 3D model will be displayed in the augmented reality view.
After you open a model for the first time, it will then be stored in the “Local Models” gallery, which you will be able to access whenever you want without an internet connection.
*March 2017 edit – The “Local Models” gallery is no longer supported. To access a model on your device without an internet connection, upload the model to the Augment Manager, then sync it to your device by pulling down on the screen from the “My Models” gallery.
