If a picture is worth a thousand words (or a thousand online sales, in eCommerce), then what is an interactive, 3D augmented reality experience of a product worth on your Shopify store?

You know product images are essential for your online store. Shoppers have come to expect stellar images. The difference between mediocre and high-quality, professional photos can easily make or break the decision to browse on your site.

Hopefully, you’ve incorporated photography best practices on your store:

  • high-resolution photos
  • alternate views
  • showing configuration options
  • closeups

These best practices are essential for getting a shopper’s attention. But what next? How can you create an engaging, informational, and even inspirational experience that drives conversions?

Augmented reality takes product visualization a step further. What if consumers could see your products in front of them right now? AR makes it possible to see virtual products in your actual environment, and the integration of AR in eCommerce is quickly changing how consumers shop by allowing them to see what they want to buy before any purchase is made.

You can easily add AR to your online store with Augment to provide value to your customers.

Once the customer clicks the Augment Button on your website from their mobile device, your 3D model launches in the Augment app, in the real world, in real time. If the customer doesn’t have the app yet, they’ll be prompted to install it so they can launch the model in augmented reality.

What if the customer is on their computer? Clicking the Augment Button launches your unique Augment 3D model page. Here, the person can text a link to their mobile device or scan a temporary QR code with the Augment app to reveal the model.

I’ll walk you through how to do this on a Shopify store.

What you’ll need to get started:

  • A Shopify website
  • An Augment account
  • 3D models of your products

AUGMENT MANAGER

Step 1: Upload your 3D models to the Augment Manager. Check out Augment’s 3D model guidelines and best practices here. Don’t have any 3D models? Hiring a 3D designer or 3D scanning are great options.

Step 2: From your Augment dashboard, Click the thumbnail image of the model you want to launch in AR from your Shopify store. *Note: you can only create an Augment Button for 3D models that are public.
